An 18-year-old BTech student from Surat, studying at Karnavati University, ended his life died by suicide in his hostel room at Kudasan on Saturday evening. Infocity Police suspect that academic stress may have driven him to the extreme step.
The student, identified as Smit Timbaliya, was in the second semester of BTech. He had been staying for about one and a half years in United Homes Hostel located on the 8th floor of Orbit Mall, Kudasan, along with three other students. His family lives in Surat, where his father runs a business.
On Saturday evening, Smit was alone in the room while his roommates were downstairs. When one of them later returned and knocked on the door, there was no response. After repeated attempts, other students gathered and forced the door open. They found Smit hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.
He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead. Police said no suicide note was found from the room.
